Dragging you down into the basement, Fiery MacHirst presents her self portraits series.
The series capture a series of emotions surrounding the negative connotations of her own self image she firmly believes social media has caused by altering reality as a society.
“The paintings speak for themselves, they are the words of inner negative feelings I cannot begin to comprehend myself. I use a mirror for reference and paint my reflection- I don’t paint the physical side of me, I paint the damage social media has done to me as a person. Social media isn’t real nor is it promoting natural beauty, I can’t hide behind filters, a false lifestyle, a false sense of security, I’m presented wit myself in the most beautiful form however the feelings of disgust, anger, pain and self-hatred completely drown me. I still don’t paint these feelings, I paint the frustration of dealing wit these negative feelings, I paint the anger social media has done to me, blurring the lines between real life and the online world.”
